The project began as a decoration project that quickly evolved into a full remodeling venture. The client bought the condo during the pandemic and imported part of his existing furniture inventory from New York. Instead of forcing existing pieces that felt heavy and disproportionate for a Miami Beach Pied-à-Terre, through the power of space planning our team was able to propose a layout that involved appropriate furniture dimensions commanded by the space and the use of each area.
Since it was designed during the pandemic, it was imperative to provide custom solutions for home entertainment, as well as flexible areas where the clients could work and live at the same time. The material selection focused on warm, light, and textural elements to compliment the extraordinary views of the water and the Miami skyline.
The result included a flexible room used as a home office and guest bedroom that could also be open and merged into the public area. Pocket doors were incorporated to provide when closed, a fully fenced room with enough privacy for a guest to stay, or for daily virtual meetings and work at a distance. When open, a direct connection to the main living space is created duplicating the entertaining area to host larger groups.
A wooden “cube“, constructed of vertical walnut slats in the center of the apartment, provides warmth and a focal point shared by every space. This element also serves to conceal the pocket doors to the office and provided a niche to recess the TV and general entertainment equipment for a clean and refined look.
Walnut panels were also used in the Master Bedroom to conceal the door of the W.I.C., this time playing with a more intimate and darker palette in the sleeping quarters and exposed bathroom.
