Orient Express: A Legacy of Luxury Design and Timeless Interiors
August 15, 2024

Orient Express stands as a legendary symbol of refined travel and timeless elegance, and at Guidon Studio, we celebrate the convergence of design, history, and luxury—elements that elevate not only the spaces we inhabit but also the experiences we cherish. This week, we turn our attention to this iconic train, which continues to captivate design lovers and cultural enthusiasts alike.
Originally revived in 1977 by Sir James Sherwood, the Orient Express has long been synonymous with Art Deco interiors and opulent craftsmanship. Carriages adorned with the exquisite detailing of René Prou and René Lalique offer more than mere transportation—they present a living gallery of design history. For those of us in the world of interior design, the train serves as an inspiring case study in how form, texture, and storytelling converge to create immersive environments.
Looking ahead to 2024, the Orient Express embarks on a new chapter of luxury and innovation. A new route from Paris to Portofino invites travelers to experience European elegance with renewed wonder, while the Eastern and Oriental Express—its Southeast Asian sister—prepares to launch an inspired culinary journey curated by chef André Chiang. Perhaps most striking is L’Observatoire, a new sleeper car by French artist JR, which fuses contemporary art with traditional luxury design. The result is a sensorial voyage that pushes the boundaries of what design in motion can be.
At Guidon Studio, we find deep resonance in the Orient Express’s ability to bridge past and present, history and modernity. Its interiors are a masterclass in narrative design—each detail speaking to craftsmanship, heritage, and aesthetic continuity. Whether we’re curating a quiet corner or conceptualizing a full residence, we strive to capture that same level of timeless sophistication.
Thank you for journeying with us. As always, we remain committed to exploring and sharing the design stories that shape our world.
Warm regards,
The Guidon Studio Team
