Custom Area Rugs for Casa Sunrise

At Guidon Studio, our Casa Sunrise project highlights the transformative power of custom area rugs in upscale residential interiors. For the Living Room and main entertaining area, we drew inspiration from the stunning rice terraces of Yuanyang County, China—organic forms layered in harmony that evoke movement and tranquility. These motifs formed the basis of our design narrative, which we translated into bespoke rugs crafted in collaboration with the artisans at Art & Loom, using their Paper Edge collection. This partnership resulted in two complementary rugs that are unified by color and concept, carefully tailored to enhance the architectural identity of each space.

To visually connect the two rooms, we implemented a shared palette of green, taupe, grey, and white—colors chosen for their ability to support our overall interior design vision. The green brings a vibrant sense of the outdoors into the home, while taupe and grey provide a subtle link to the surrounding finishes and materials. White, which is intentionally dominant in the Living Room rug, adds a lightness that contrasts with the room’s darker wooden flooring and built-in shelving. This choice elevates the atmosphere, allowing furnishings and curated decor pieces to breathe and resonate.

In contrast, the rug in the Entertaining Area introduces a sculptural surprise—its avocado-inspired shape adds a touch of whimsy to the otherwise refined setting. This unexpected form serves as a focal point, encouraging engagement and conversation among guests. The interplay of artistry, materiality, and organic references defines this duo of rugs, blurring the line between functional decor and design exhibition. At Guidon Studio, projects like Casa Sunrise reflect our belief that great interior design is a layered story—one that celebrates the beauty of nature, the craftsmanship of our collaborators, and the personality of the people who inhabit the space.
