Dear Guidon Studio Community,

We are delighted to share the beautiful facade of Cult Gaia’s Miami store, designed by the talented Michael Chandler. Originally from East London and based in Cape Town, Chandler is a versatile artist, curator, and ceramicist known for his blue-and-white ceramic tile murals, now admired internationally.

Recently commissioned by Cult Gaia founder Jasmin Larian Hekmat, Chandler created a mesmerizing 1,800-piece mural for the Miami flagship store. This hand-painted porcelain tile mural, arranged meticulously like a puzzle, depicts a ‘Tree of Life’ scene with muses, birds, flowers, and fruit.

Chandler’s creative process is a testament to his dedication and attention to detail. It begins with an informal chat with the client to understand their vision. After sketching the design on large architectural drawings, he meticulously codes and sketches the tiles, adding details with varying tones and intricate scratches to enhance definition.

Chandler painted the mural upright for better perspective and ease of use in this project. This being his first public piece, he found inspiration in its urban setting, embedding tiny details in the branches for passers by to discover over time. Chandler’s work combines historical influences with contemporary design, creating pieces that are both elegant and meaningful.

Thank you for joining us in celebrating the fusion of art and design. We look forward to sharing more captivating stories and inspirations in our next edition.

Warm regards,

Guidon Studio Team
