Bvlgari's Torlonia Collection makes its debut at the Louvre
September 12, 2024
We’re excited to share an extraordinary collaboration between the Musée du Louvre and luxury brand Bvlgari, who have come together to showcase the prestigious Torlonia Collection—the world’s most significant private collection of ancient Greek and Roman sculptures. For the first time in history, these magnificent pieces are on display outside of Italy, marking a milestone event. The exhibition celebrates Bvlgari’s 140th anniversary, presenting over 60 masterpieces within the historic Apartment of Anne of Austria at the Louvre, a space usually reserved for the museum’s permanent collection of sculptures.
The collection, curated by Prince Alessandro Torlonia, is a testament to his pioneering vision of making private art accessible to the public. His acquisition of Villa Albani in 1886 transformed the collection into a museum that elevated classical sculptures to new heights. The Torlonia Collection, spanning centuries of artistic mastery, allows us to delve deeply into the evolution of sculpture and offers a rare opportunity to witness these works outside their Roman home. The exhibition begins in the Salle des Caryatides, where pieces from the Louvre’s permanent collection are displayed alongside the Torlonia masterpieces, showcasing the rich dialogue between different artistic eras.
This partnership between the Louvre and Bvlgari underscores the ongoing relationship between luxury, art, and heritage. It’s a rare and fleeting chance to view these ancient sculptures before they return to Italy. If you’re in Paris, we highly recommend a visit to the Louvre before the exhibition concludes in November.
Here at Guidon Studio, we’re continually inspired by such collaborations that blend history, artistry, and craftsmanship in ways that resonate with the present day.
Warm regards,
The Guidon Studio Team
