At Guidon Studio, we are constantly inspired by the intersection of history, design, architecture, and culture. This week, we’re excited to share an incredible story from the world of design and heritage preservation: The Great Egyptian Museum in Cairo. This monumental project was designed by the renowned Irish firm Heneghan Peng Architects. Home to over 100,000 artifacts, this museum offers an unparalleled glimpse into the millennia-old history of Egypt, framed against the backdrop of the Giza Pyramids.

The museum, which spans an impressive 500,000 square meters, blends modern architectural design with the timelessness of ancient Egypt. Its facade, crafted from local alabaster stone, transforms throughout the day, reflecting the golden sands and the majestic desert landscape. Designed with three visual axes that align perfectly with the Pyramids of Giza, the museum’s layout is divided into distinct zones, warmly inviting visitors on a journey through the treasures of Egypt’s past.

One of the most striking features of the museum is the imposing statue of Ramses II, which stands at 11 meters tall and required the museum to be built around it due to its massive scale. Beyond this entry point lies another courtyard leading to a shaded staircase that ascends to the original plateau level. Along the way, visitors will encounter iconic artifacts such as the Tutankhamun Collection and the Solar Boat, representing Egypt’s rich contribution to world heritage. As designers, we are in awe of how this museum not only preserves the past but also pushes the boundaries of contemporary design. Stay tuned as Guidon Studio explores more fascinating stories like these from the world of design and beyond.

Warm Regards,
